Frequent aspirin use is linked with lower 卵巢癌 risk in individuals with multiple risk factors, according to a 新的研究 刊登于 Journal of Clinical Oncology.

“Ovarian cancer is the most fatal gynecologic cancer. Most known risk factors of 卵巢癌—such as family history, mutations in the BRCA 12 genes, 和 endometriosis—can’t be modified,” says Britton Trabert, PhD, MS, investigator in the Cancer Control 和 Population Sciences Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute 和 assistant professor of obstetrics 和 gynecology 在 University of Utah School of Medicine. This new research holds promise because it shows an actionable step people at higher risk of 卵巢癌 can take to reduce their chance of developing the disease.

“每日, 或者几乎每天, aspirin use was associated with a 13% reduction in 卵巢癌 risk 和 we found that aspirin benefitted most subgroups. 重要的是, this research provides further evidence that 卵巢癌 chemoprevention with frequent aspirin use could benefit people in higher-risk subgroups.”

A 2018年的研究 showed daily aspirin use is linked with reduced 卵巢癌 rates. 然而, individual studies have not been able to look at whether aspirin would be beneficial to people at varying risk of disease.

Subgroups were defined by individual factors like endometriosis, 肥胖, a family history of breast or 卵巢癌, 怀孕, oral contraceptive use, 输卵管结扎手术, 和 by number of risk factors: n一个, 一个, 两个或更多.

“We pooled data from 17 studies, nine prospective cohort studies from the 卵巢癌 Cohort Consortium, 和 eight case-control studies from the 卵巢癌 Association Consortium that included more than 8,300 cases. This gave us a more detailed 和 accurate look than if we used published data.”

“Aspirin use has been linked with major adverse events, including internal bleeding 和 stroke. We wanted to evaluate whether aspirin could prevent 卵巢癌 in people at higher risk. Since aspirin helped people who had two or more risk factors, we hope patients 和 clinicians can use this research to have an informed conversation when it comes to potential preventive measures. Individuals should consult their health care providers before beginning new medication in order to most appropriately balance any potential risks with the potential benefits.”

Trabert’s research focuses on identifying strategies for prevention or early detection of ovarian 和 endometrial cancers. Trabert earned a Department of Defense Investigator-Initiated 研究 Award related to her work with aspirin use 和 lower 卵巢癌 rates.

The study was supported by the U.S. Department of Defense Ovarian 癌症研究 Program (W81XWH-19-1-0346).
